Dr. Bharadwaj is a sensory neuroscientist with a broad engineering background. Together with his students and collaborators, he studies the physiological mechanisms of auditory perception in complex environments, such as crowded restaurants and busy streets. His lab aims to understand not only how auditory perception succeeds in these settings, but also how it can fail in diverse forms of hearing loss and in individuals with neurological disorders. In doing so, the lab seeks to advance precision diagnostics for hearing problems, improve assistive devices such as hearing aids cochlear implants, and mimic physiological auditory computations in machines for audio applications.
